This position will be critical in advancing our mission to drive profit-focused technical excellence and innovation within the Plymouth Rock Group of Companies.   The position will be responsible for research and development of new predictive models and new analytical techniques around insurance pure premiums, customer life time value, customer buying behaviors and other related topics utilizing internal and external data.  This work will be used in setting pricing, underwriting and product strategies for the Plymouth Rock group of Companies.  The analysis and modeling will be tested via implementation both broadly and on a pilot basis to allow us to learn and refine our approaches in rapid succession.   Data Analysis: The Data Science Intern will work with internal and external data to understand key drivers of expected insurance losses and lifetime customer value.  This will require that the Intern acquires an understanding of various internal and external data sources, is able to illicit hypothesis from internal personnel regarding key variables and test those hypotheses using available data.   Modeling: The Data Science Intern will help develop and enhance models used in a variety of contexts within the product management structure of Plymouth Rock.  The Intern will be responsible for advancing the modeling capabilities within Plymouth Rock and transferring those advancements to other product management personnel.   Implementation: The Data Science Intern will work with the product community to facilitate the application of models developed considering the regulatory and competitive contexts within which we operate.  This will include ensuring that models are well understood, the implications are appropriately assessed, implementation plans are defined, validation of results are undertaken and adjustments are made rapidly.    The successful candidate will have the following attributes: -  Graduate Student from a doctoral program in the areas of economics, statistics or a related field (background in Bayesian statistics preferred). - Practical experience in Econometrics and Statistics, preferably in a business context. - Strong written and oral communication skills and an ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. - High standards for the work products delivered. - Creative thinker with the ability to synthesize information from various sources and apply that information to concrete business problems. - Flexibility and resiliency characteristic of a professional. - Knowledge of, and experience with, the technical aspects of insurance is a plus. - Proficiency with modeling software (SAS preferred).   -We will also consider co-op students for this position.   About the Company The Plymouth Rock Company and its affiliated group of companies write and manage over $1.6 billion in personal and commercial auto and homeowner’s insurance throughout the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, where we have built an unparalleled reputation for service. Essential Functions and Responsibilities - Initiate prompt contact of all insureds/claimants/witnesses on all new claim assignments to conduct thorough coverage and liability/injury investigations.  These investigations might require the representatives take in depth recorded statements to investigate coverage and liability/injury claims. - Analyze, review and interpret policies to assess coverage and liability. Provide advice to Excess and Primary coverage issues. - Conduct field investigations, interviews with insureds, witnesses and claimants while maintaining a pending of represented claimant cases. - Manage and direct outside vendors (Field/Counsel/Surveillance, Etc..) to determine what investigation is necessary and give them direction to bring a claim to conclusion. Ensure only necessary work is completed. - Investigate cases timely so that reserves are established and maintained at proper levels.  Revise reserves timely based on developments in the course of the claim.      - Investigate the validity of bodily injury claims being presented by individual insureds/claimants or attorneys representing insureds/claimants. Be aware of certain “Red Flags” to identify potential fraudulent claims. Refer to SIU for investigation timely. - Handle more complex claims to include coverage issues, UM/UIM, etc..  Also, must have prior litigation handling. - Recognize and investigate subrogation potential. - Negotiate both 1st and 3rd party claims directly with injured parties and their attorneys. - Exercises proper judgment and decision making to analyze exposure, determine the proper course of action and make recommendations for final resolution. - Attend litigation proceedings to either represent the company or participate in arbitrations/depositions/settlement conferences/ mediations/ trials. - Attend all internal and external training events as required.  - Participate in proactive team activities to achieve departmental and company objectives. In this vital role, the Medical Claims Litigation Representative is responsible for the management of arbitrations and lawsuits resulting from the processing of Personal Injury Protection and Extended Medical Expense Claims.  These cases are handled in accordance to state compliance requirements and guidelines. In this fast-paced role, the PIP Representatives adjusts first party personal injury claims according to state compliance requirements and guidelines.  Essential Functions and Responsibilities - This position will handle lower severity Personal Injury Protection claims in multiple states. - The PIP Claim Representative will receive between 3 to 5 first reports a day with a priority on patient contact, service, and claim disposition. - Daily duties include first reports, Image Right tasks, medical bill review, treatment monitoring, reserve assessment and Nursing interaction. - Maintains an effective follow-up system on pending files, prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, adjust to fluctuating workload, advises injured parties as to the status of the claim. - Investigates and interprets policy provisions and conditions to make a coverage determination. - Functional knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy with a thorough understanding of Personal Injury Protection claim handling regulatory requirements is preferred but not necessary. - The PIP Claim Representative must have the ability to multitask in time sensitive situations. - Ensures that service, loss and expense control are maintained at all times. - Adheres to privacy guidelines, law and regulations pertaining to claims handling. - Candidates must have strong customer service, organization, verbal and written skills and have the ability to work in a small team environment.   Qualifications and Education - Recent college graduates are encouraged to apply. - A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is a plus. - Basic personal computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products. This position is a rare opportunity to do really well in your career while doing really well for society   This positon will be supporting all customer acquisition, engagement and retention tactics and play an important role in ensuring flawless execution of the program.  Program monitoring, reporting and analysis will be a specific priority.   Critical to this role is excitement for building a great app and delivering innovative marketing campaigns, attention to detail and strong ability for collaboration with internal groups and external partners.    Specific Responsibilities Include: - Execute marketing campaigns and promotions to drive increased enrollment, engagement and retention of customers into the Road Rewards program. - Evaluate marketing campaign performance and communicate root causes of performance. - Own day-to-day oversight of the program including timely resolution of customer issues, monitoring of program performance and identification of trends - Test and implement new program benefits, experiential rewards and functionality required to increase customer engagement and improve customer driving habits - Develop a deep understanding of customer needs and preferences in relation to the Road Rewards experience, be a voice of customer in relation to the app experience - Drive the execution of the program’s features and benefits - adding new rewards options, adding functionality to the app - Work closely with the app vendor, rewards vendors and internal teams to ensure smooth operation of the program - Partner with digital team on digital advertising including display, paid & organic search, paid social, email, etc. with the purpose of driving consumer engagement of new and existing features    Qualifications: -  Bachelor's Degree required. - Minimum 2-3 years of customer marketing, innovation or operations experience - Analytical thinker with ability to interpret results and site metrics to drive change - Problem solver, who can resolve issues effectively and creatively while maintaining a high level of flexibility, professionalism and integrity - Have some experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Instapage and running social campaigns - Experience working with multiple stakeholder to drive results - Strong communication and presentation skills - Unafraid to be thrown into new projects that will stretch your skills - Demonstrated ability to execute digital marketing programs including mobile apps - Experience in insurance industry or insuretech is a plus   About the Company The Plymouth Rock Company and its affiliated group of companies write and manage over $1.6 billion in personal and commercial auto and homeowner’s insurance throughout the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, where we have built an unparalleled reputation for service.
