Claims Data Analyst

 

The Claims Data Analyst’s mission will be to provide support to the IA Claims Analytics Team, the Claims Department’s Operations and Management Teams and Departments as needed.  The successful candidate will participate in a broad range of data management, reporting and analytical activities designed to help Plymouth Rock maintain and extend its competitive edge with respect to loss management, claims customer service, expense control, and employee engagement.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Claims Department management and other business functions producing both recurring (production) and ad hoc reports and analyses
  • Develop and maintain an efficient and sustainable data structure and environment to support automated reporting, business intelligence, analysis and predictive modeling
  • Monitor company performance relative to history, targets and the competition through internal data sources, industry data and other publicly available data
  • Work with the Claims Department’s management team to continually develop the best possible set of metrics that enable maximum executive understanding of how Claims is performing relative to our objectives and relative to the competition.  Produce and analyze monthly results reports against operational metrics and deliver same to senior management.
  • Assist in business research by participating in hypothesis generation, gathering data, identifying root causes of problems or opportunities and proposing solutions, on the basis of analytic findings
  • Document and communicate project quality over the course of testing, including readiness for release using our standard test process and status reporting template
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to business on report usability and functionality
  • Provide other Claims Department analytical support as needed

Qualifications:

  • Prior Property & Casualty Insurance experience preferred
  • Comfort in working with relational databases and an education in predictive modeling.
  • Excellent skills as a communicator and facilitator, both written and oral; to effectively communicate results and ideas to Claims leadership, and to other audiences outside the department
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and proficiency in other Microsoft Office suite products
  • Skilled in SQL, preferably experienced in SQL Server Management Studio
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: MS Access, DB2, Hyperion, R, Python, Tableau, Power BI or similar business intelligence tool(s)
  • Ability to manage structured and non-structured data from multiple sources
  • Ability to work independently and within a team to accomplish a common goal
  • Intellectually curious and interested in exploring new ways to analyze data and effectively deliver findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Intrinsic sense of urgency with ability to prioritize workload, meet project deadlines and drive results

 Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in either business, analytical or system development discipline desired (engineering, statistics, economics, mathematics, computer science, software development)
  • Prior SQL coding experience required
  • Prior claims and/or insurance experience preferred but not required
  • Project management experience (even small scale) preferred but not required
